Orange You Lovely

A good wedding guest will show up on time, not run up the drink tab, and compliment the decor or theme... at least that's our theory. Fall weddings means lots of orange details, and your attire should be no exception! While wearing orange is usually a pretty bold choice, especially at a more formal event, here are some ways to wear the color du jour and still look on fire:

You definitely won't be mistaken for a pumpkin in this sexy burnt orange dress by Elie Tahari.  It's soft and feminine enough to wear at a wedding or formal event, but add a blazer and you're all set for work or a night out.

If orange isn't exactly your color, you can still look festive with this gorgeous floral necklace featuring orange tones in tiger lilies and hibiscus.  Wear it with a solid colored dress, and allow your accessories to speak for themselves.

Every gossip girl knows that you must have a headband of power to coordinate with every outfit.  Dress yourself from head to toe with this handmade headband designed with flowers and feathers. It's not too over the top, but it's definitely a fun and bold choice. Whether you have a cute pixie cut our luscious locks, your hair will thank you.

While not exactly subtle, this plaid dress plays up fall colors in a more understated way.  The geometrical neckline is only for the bold, but if you can pull it off, you will look sweet and sexy at the same time, as well as very fashion forward.

We're big fans of wearing bold shoes, like these orange satin pumps pictured above (which by the way are identical to the shoes Jen wore at her wedding!) We think it looks best with a more muted color dress, but if you're a New York Mets fan and want to pair these shoes with your royal blue dress, who are we to stop you?!

We're going to throw caution to the wind and say that you can pair this handmade clutch with a number of different colored dresses. Don't worry too much about matching... just focus on not clashing! We love this fabric because it shows different shades of red, orange, and yellow depending on how you hold it. So while you can definitely pair this with your LBD, why not accessorize your cute purple halter dress as well?

Your wrists deserve to be adorned with the warm and rich colors of fall!  We like this pumpkin/squash colored bracelet by Tooli.  At just $30 the price is right, it would look great with any color of the season, and it has little touches of pearls, perfect for brides and bridemaids, that add a refined touch of class.

Orange you glad we didn't say banana?

Fall Wedding Tips: It's All in the Details

Traditionally, June has been the favorite month for wedding planning, but we've noticed that fall weddings are becoming increasingly popular.  Perhaps it's the warm colors, the cool weather that keeps your hair looking fierce, or the cheaper venue rental prices, but whatever the reason, we love this trend.  As we always say, details make the event.  With fall weddings, we feel like you can get very creative in planning your wedding and add little seasonal touches to really emphasize your theme.  From food to decor, here are our thoughts on how to make your fall wedding extra special:

We posted before how soup shots are a great appetizer, but how about soup instead of salad as part of your however-many-course dinner?  It's perfect for the crisp fall weather, and you can opt for a traditional type of soups (i.e. Italian wedding) or go for something more consistent with your theme (like butternut squash or pumpkin soup).  Your guests will feel comfy and cozy in no time, and the pumpkin soup looks so yummy we want to bathe in it!

Sticking with food, we've talked about how many brides are choosing cake alternatives for dessert on their big day.  Our favorite non-cake dessert is definitely pie, which is perfect for the fall.  Hot apple pie and delicious pumpkin pie are fall staples that everyone loves, and are best served in the fall.  So forgo the traditional wedding cake and opt instead for a pie table! Or, if you want a little bit of everything, then how about mini apple tarts and pumpkin pies? It's your wedding, so have fun with it. Your guests will definitely appreciate it.

Instead of coffee with your dessert, try apple cider! It's delicious, goes with the theme, and looks too cute with the cinnamon sticks! Of course, you can always serve this during cocktail hour as well, to help keep your guests nice and cozy.

While fall wedding colors tend to be bold and vibrant, you can still have a seasonal theme minus the orange and red.  Instead of pumpkins and applies, think harvests and crops. We love this wheat centerpiece, which is so delicate and beautiful, and provides a more muted palette for your fall wedding.

As for your bridal bouquet, try tying it with some twine rather than with ribbon.  It will give a more rustic, country feel, and add charm to your wedding.  The (slightly major) downside is that twine is so itchy and uncomfortable! Which means while it may look shabby chic, you'll definitely be ready to toss the bouquet at evening's end.  While most brides usually don't carry around their bouquet all night anyway, this is definitely something to consider before adopting this look.

While we do think pumpkins at fall weddings are very typical, be careful not to go too far. Keep it simple with these mini pumpkin candles that help create some ambience around your center piece. It's definitely better than having legit jack-on-lanterns at your wedding, but it adds to your theme and we think it's cute and quirky.  We do think, however, that this look would look better with less bold colored flowers.  Also, use it to decorate the gift table, the card table, or any other surfaces to pull your theme together.

Another fall wedding staple are autumn leaves.  Yes, we know it's fall which means leaves are falling, and it's very cute and all, but we're aware that too many fall looks can be overkill. With that said, we think these tea lights wrapped in bright fall leaves are so beautiful and understated. It works great if your surfaces are light colored, as shown above, because it really makes the color pop without making it look cluttered.

    Here's to falling in love!

Mad for Plaid

Greetings, dolls! It's almost September which, for some, means back to school! This time of year reminds us of freshly sharpened pencils, crisp notebooks, shiny red apples, and of course PLAID! We love plaid on anything from fashion to decor, and think it is the ultimate fall pattern. You don't have to be a school girl or Scottish bagpipe player to rock this autumn staple, and it's easy to incorporate this into your wardrobe. Here are a few suggestions:

Crisp fall weather means it's perfect time to invest in a cute trench coat! We love this trench from Anthropologie, not only for its bold pattern, but also because of its great fit. The ruffles, the open collar, and the fitted belt provide a great feminine touch to the classic trench, and it's stylish without being too preppy.

If an all-plaid coat is a little too much for you, go for a more subtle look by throwing on a plaid scarf. You can opt for more traditional red and black or blue and hunter green combos, or you can go for some color with this buffalo plaid scarf available at Tilly's. It will keep you warm, add a pop of color to your neutrals, and it's on sale!

Plaid definitely has a retro feel to it, which is why we love this vintage style v-neck dress by Mod Cloth. It screams Brit chic, and would look great paired with kitten heels and a short cardigan. It's perfect for work or play, as the dark colors are subtle enough to blend in at the office, but throw on some red lipstick and it's party time!

For a more casual approach, try this plaid shirt dress by BDG. We love the rolled sleeves and the fitted belt, and it comes in both blue or red. Pair this with some wool tights, a cropped jacket, and some booties and you are ready for some autumn fun.

BDG apparently loves plaid as much as we do, as they also have a very stylish tartan tote available at Urban Outfitters. It's large enough to fit school books, a lap top, files, and whatever else you may want to tote around. We love the brown color scheme, but if you're looking for something brighter, they also have it available in teal!

A fitted plaid shirt goes a long way. Take this button down by RVCA, for example. It would look great with a pair of jeans and boots, but would also look chic with a pencil skirt at work. Don't be afraid to think outside the box!

If you want to wear plaid at the workplace, how about a plaid pencil skirt? It's sleek and stylish, and will look great paired with a crisp button down or cardigan. Sure it might scream "sexy librarian," but isn't that the best part?

Everybody knows that plaid is so rad!

    XOXO,
