Saira's BHLDN Dream Wedding

Now that you saw Jen's "dream wedding", it's time for Saira to share. While we both have similar styles, Jen's look is a bit more soft and romantic, while Saira's can be more casual or hip. The wonderful thing about BHLDN is that it encompasses both our styles, and everything in between, to create unique bridal fashion that everyone can enjoy.

    The Dress:
Traditional wedding gowns are gorgeous, but not for everyone. If you're a hippie chick or love the vintage look, then this burnished organza gown is perfect for you. It has a bronze sequined bodice which adds some personality and color to the dress, without being overwhelming or gaudy. The five tiers of silk create a wonderful silhouette, perfect for gracefully swishing down the aisle.

    The Jewelry:

Because the neckline of the organza gown is so embellished, we suggest wearing a bracelet rather than a necklace or earrings, in order to avoid too much clutter in the neck region. We think these simple moonstone bangles are a perfect compliment, dressing up your bare arms with just a touch of gold.

    The Shoes:

These peep toe sandals would work for both the brides and bridesmaids (below), adding some color to both ensembles.

    The Accessory:

If you can't tell already, a pea / lime green is Saira's accent color of choice.  It would look great with the bridesmaid dresses (below) and tie the whole look together.

    The Bridesmaids:
If the bride is dressed simply, then so should the bridesmaids. This short and sweet pleated dress is wonderfully simple, but chic! It is in the same cream colored family as the organza gown, with a pea green sash to add some color. The chiffon neckline gives it a vintage feel, making the bridesmaid the prim little sister to the free spirited bride.

    Happy wedding, dolls!

    XOXO,

    Jen & Saira

Wedding Style: Cake Toppers

One half of the PDR team celebrates a birthday today!  So, let's all wish Saira a very "Happy Birthday!" and hope she gets to take some time out of bar studying to enjoy herself.

Birthdays get us thinking of sweet and delicious cake!  And, no cake would be complete without a topper.  Typically for birthdays you'll get fun trick candles, maybe a fire truck or other plastic toy prop, cheesy photo of yourself, etc. etc.  But, for weddings, you get something more than a decoration, you get a piece of art that serves to make a statement.  Here are a few noteworthy wedding cake toppers that show a lot of personality!  Display these toppers on your cakes for decoration, in your scrapbook for future generations to see, or on a book shelf to act as a memento, and intriguing conversation piece, for years to come:

Did we ever think something made out of paper could be this intricate and beautiful? Concarta features some gorgeous cake toppers that are carefully constructed out of paper, though you certainly wouldn't believe it at first glance.  The attention to detail is amazing and we think these are a lovely, romantic, and modern twist on the traditional bride and groom cake topper.

Those fond of Philly's Love Park will enjoy this cake topper.  The topper is a replica of the Robert Indiana statue that stands in Philadelphia and many places around the globe.  Art lovers, skate boarders, and modern couples everywhere would be thrilled to have this sculpture, by Blue Butterfly Design, adorn the top of their cake!

Ok, seriously, how cute are these!?  These pewter love birds, by sugarrushcakes, really take the cake! They are so simple and elegant and would be the perfect addition to any confectionery creation.  Plus, we think these would look adorable on a shelf afterwards as a little decorative element.

As far as wooden doll designs go, togetherforever's cake toppers are something to marvel at.  The craftsmanship is top notch and the final result is nothing short of delightful.  Complete with handmade clothing, childlike hand painted faces, and customized to your wedding color and style, these toppers are works of art that are irresistibly charming.

You love your pets, so why not include them on your cake and portray yourselves as the happy family you are.  These toppers, by peanutbutterbandit, are hand painted and customized to resemble the bride and groom, and their cats! How fun!  Plus, these wooden doll pieces are more affordable then some similar ones we have in this post, so it's a great option for you brides on a budget to get an adorable topper without sacrificing style!

Love birds are some of our favorites and these, personified as the bride and groom, are modern and fun but still incredibly graceful.  These birdies RedLightStudio are so cute and whimsical and can be customized to suite the bride and groom's style (check out that flower in the hair!) and colors.

We think it's adorable when the cake topper really represents the couple well and this one certainly says a lot!  Bike enthusiasts everywhere will appreciate this tandem bike topper by etsy seller HeatherBoyd.  This cycling couple is handmade using metal wire, and customized with the names of the bride and groom!  How does it stand up, you ask?  With a kickstand, of course!

    "Let them eat cake!"

April Showers bring MAY FLOWERS!

We haven't said it yet, so Happy May! We've already started posting some great flowers for spring, so here are some more of our favorites!  Another flower that is particularly seasonal to the spring is the peony.  This flower is large, full, and romantic and has layers of soft petals that make it look particularly lush and voluminous.  Peonies are gorgeous but expensive flowers, so if you live in our area we recommend them only for spring and very early summer... unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for them by having them shipped from who knows where.

This peony bouquet is absolutely charming! Romantic pink and peach peonies are paired together for a super feminine, vintage kind of look. We love how loose it looks, but at the same time how full and dreamy!  And it all comes together with a soft, feminine white ribbon!

This simple, pink peony centerpiece would be perfect for any springtime event. And, we love how easy this look is to pull off! Just find a vintage vase at a local flea market and stick in a few blooms and you're ready to go -- these flowers are so full that it just takes a couple to really make an impact.

For reasons we cannot fathom, not everyone chooses to incorporate shades of pink in their lives. For these people, there is the romantic white peony bouquet. The clean, bright whites, fabulous texture, and soft contrast of the yellow center makes these the perfect choice for a little bit of a more subdued romance.

Again going for the vintage kind of look we love this antique-y vase and the very pale pink blossoms. They are subtle enough to satisfy any pink loving girl, but classy and muted enough to serve as a gorgeous decoration for any vintage inspired event without being overwhelming.

Is is possible for a bouquet to be too full? NEVER! We absolutely love how lucious this yellow bouquet of peonies is and wish we could just reach out and touch it. There is nothing more picturesque than a full, soft, texurized bouquet and this one certainly has it all. Plus the pale yellow makes it look good enough to eat!

And, for a more modern look, we love these pink and white peonies with the contrast of the chartreuse ribbon!  The ribbon plays up the yellow tones in the white peonies while adding a beautiful contrast to the pink ones. The simplicity of having just one type of flower, plus the casually tied bow, makes this bouquet both casual and elegant.

And, of course, the modern centerpiece. There's nothing sweeter than combining fresh fruits with gorgeous blooms and we think this is a great example of how the two can be paired harmoniously. The use of the white linens and the limes sharply contrasting with the fucshia and pink create a look that it crisp and fresh.

    XOXO

Spring Flowers: Tulips

Here is our first of many floral inspirations.  One of the most common flowers that come to mind when you think of spring is the tulip. They are a beautiful spring flower and come in a variety of bright, fun colors as well as the traditional white. With long stems and simple blossoms they are the perfect flower for any modern springtime fete. Here are some great bouquets and centerpiece that feature tulips:

This centerpiece from www.weddingbycolor.com is a beautiful and elegant display of this spring flower.  These tulips have their stems cut short to create a low centerpiece and are loosely placed in the vase to give them that "just picked from the garden" look. The off-white tulip is a classic, clean and romantic choice for a modern, formal affair.

Here we have a modern spring bouquet featuring white tulips. The long stems and single flower design make this very modern and minimalistic and the flowers themselves have a look that is very clean and bright! Plus, we love the contrast of the black ribbon!

We are in love with these gorgeous purple tulips (and the cute favor box!).  This is another great choice for the modern spring wedding.  First of all, the shades of purple and glowing candles are beautiful and the centerpiece looks great with the contrast of the bright green stems!  But, what we are really enjoying is the height of these flowers and the square vase they are placed in - it creates great drama!  This is one wedding we would have loved to attend!!

Looking for something a little more on the frilly, girly-girl, traditional side?  Then we would suggest something like this pale pink bouquet of parrot tulip. Parrot tulips have kind of ruffly looking petals, as opposed to the very smooth petals of regular tulips, which is what gives this bouquet its light and feathery look.

This vibrant bouquet of tulips paired with cala lilies would be perfect for a fun and unique spring wedding.  The long stems are beautiful and elegant, but this bouquet is a bit more casual as it has that loose stems and casually tied bow.  The bright pop of the cheery yellow and bold orange is sure to be a show stopper!

Bold Accessories - Cuff Bracelets

Accessories can make or break an outfit.  It's not easy to make a subtle statement without going overboard, but we think one of the safest ways to add a little flare to your ensemble is with a bold bracelet!  Often in the working world, we find ourselves limited to how much personality we can express without the risk of being seen as (gasp!) unprofessional.  A funky bracelet is a great way to express your edge and let others (i.e. your boss) know that you polished, put together, and are willing to take risks.

This bird's nest cuff by Banana Republic is a must have. The overlapping layers create a beautiful geometric design, and the muted gold tone softens the look, creating a perfect balance of structure and romance.

If you want to sparkle, but aren't feeling the gold, then try this handmade sterling silver cuff by etsy seller cgwhitfield. It's simple, modern, and just stunning.

Or, for a more finished look, check out one of Jen's favorite designers, Anna Beck. We love her beautifully simple, Indian/Middle Eastern inspired designs. We chose this bracelet in particular because of the edgy, studded pattern, but all of her pieces are equally beautiful and intriguing... and they better be, because one of these babies will run you at least $200!

This geometric hinge bracelet is so urban chic -- just like its lovely designer, Diane Warner!  Available in gun metal and gold, this unique piece is Saira's favorite. And with it's bold pattern and industrial frame, you can just picture Dominique Francon rocking this look... if she weren't a fictional character, that is.

Looking for something more casual? This leather cuff by Free People would look great with jeans and a white tank or a sexy black slip dress. It's definitely something you could wear every day and still be styling.

    Happy accessorizing!

Made with Style: Cute Gifts for the Kitchen

We think the perfect recipe for romance (or cupcakes?) starts with cute kitchen accessories!  It is no secret that families spend a good amount of time in the kitchen, so why should your kitchen lack style or character?  Luckily we have come across some unique items that can help add a little spice to your kitchen. These items would be excellent as bridal shower gifts, a birthday present for a fellow foodie, or just a little something fun for yourself.

Here is a gift you can give that is not only functional, but incredibly adorable! We love items that serve dual purposes and these Russian Matryoshka Nesting Dolls do just that!  They will look great as decor on your counter when not in use, but when you need to measure out your ingredients for a recipe they break into 6 measuring cups from 1/4 cup to 1 cup.   Available from one of our favorite stores, Urban Outfitters, for just $12.

There are all kinds of measuring spoons out there on the market -- from your regular old plastic ones, to ones on rings to keep them together, to magnetic ones.  But none of those options exactly attractive or pretty, and they all just end up getting lost in a drawer. So why not give someone a useful kitchen gift that can enjoy as a decorative item as well?  We recommend these cute spoons from beehivekitchenware.  These are measuring spoons that are meant to be displayed!

Butter deserves a beautiful home too! This milkmaid butter dish available at Anthropologie is perfect for holding your butter and keeping it fresh. The trick is to set your butter out for 30 minutes in room temperature before serving it alongside your bread -- that way it will be perfect for spreading!

How romantic!  Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we think it is certainly necessary to surprise your loved one(s) with a breakfast that really shows how you feel about them.  These little silicone cups, available at from Amazon, poach your eggs in the shapes of charming little hearts!!

Unique dishware says a lot about who you are! Having guests over for dinner? Serve that mac and cheese in these unique casserole dishes that are handmade in Peru by designer Tammy Milani.  Fresh, modern colors and patterns give these dishes a look that is sure to intrigue guests and spark conversation!

Who wouldn't want to play in the kitchen with this adorable critter baking pan from Crate & Barrel. This aluminum pan is sure to provide some tasty treats, and think of all the fun you'll have with the frosting!

And, of course, no home is complete without a kitschy set of salt and pepper shakers. You can get pretty much anything and everything in salt shaker form, from the overly cutesy to the ultra modern. Our pick are these ninja shakers from Patina, because they make seasoning your food fun.  Go ahead, add some salt and pepper...your dinner guests will never see it coming.

Cute clutches!

We figured we would start off our blog with items that are pretty much as girly as it gets - purses! Clutches and coin purses, to be precise. Whether for yourself, or as a gift for a friend (or bridesmaid!) clutches are not only incredibly feminine and adorable, but they are also very practical and versatile! Here are some unique ones that we found:

The above is Jen's favorite clutch, the Nelle - Midnight Cherub. This would be a beautiful clutch for the bride-to-be and comes in 13 gorgeous colors so you can get ones to match your bridesmaids too! They have just the right amount of frill, creating a luxurious combination texture, and are so fun and romantic that we wish we had one for every day of the week!

This handmade clutch, above, by etsy.com seller Tulip Couture, would be a cute accessory for the off-beat bride! It has the perfect muted color, romantic pattern, and the inside may just be that subtle "something blue" you were looking for! And at $45.00 it will certainly not break the bank!

Not into a color splash? How about adding some unique texture?
This adorable coin purse from sewlola is perfect for any girl with a vintage style and would especially suit a bride-to-be with the beautiful shade of cream and romantic doily pattern! Be sure to check out her other items, they are all equally as unique and beautiful as this one.

Of course, it's always a good idea to have a neutral, yet stylish clutch that you can pair up with your little black dress, or just to run out to the store with. This clutch from Mod Cloth has it all: it's simple but chic, it's casual enough to wear with jeans, and who doesn't love an accent bow. And, most importantly, it's vegan! So not only do you look fabulous, but you're also a friend to the animals.

If you're looking for something slightly more romantic, Top Shop has a dainty floral print that fits the bill! With an optional strap and glitter detailing, this clutch is a perfect way to soften an outfit and put some spring into your step! Think cardigans, a full skirt, and kitten heels, oh my!

This clutch, by Jessica McClintock, is Saira's favorite. It's elegant and modern, but with a vintage feel to it. It's definitely a must-have for wedding or holiday seasons, because it will compliment practically any ensemble. It comes in black and bronze as well, but the pewter color is just so clean and classic, with a little bit of an edge, that we can't help but want one for ourselves!

    XOXO,

    Jen & Saira
